A Anglo American foi novamente reconhecida por seu compromisso com a transparência e confiabilidade. A empresa recebeu, na quarta-feira (21), em solenidade realizada na Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), em São Paulo (SP), o Selo Ouro do Programa Brasileiro GHG Protocol (PBGHG). A certificação mais alta do programa é concedida a empresas que atendam a critérios como relevância, transparência e exatidão nas informações públicas anuais de seus inventários completos de gases de efeito estufa (GEE), verificados por empresa certificadora.
Uma das empresas fundadoras da iniciativa, a Anglo American reporta suas emissões referentes às operações de níquel, em Goiás, desde 2008, ano da criação do programa. A partir de 2014, com o início da operação no empreendimento Minas-Rio, implantada nos estados de Minas Gerais e Rio de Janeiro, a mineradora passou também a reportar as emissões com a operação de minério de ferro.
“O PBGHG contribui para que as empresas, conhecendo as suas fontes de emissão de gases de efeito estufa, possam avaliar e tomar as decisões nas mudanças de processos, visando seu posicionamento no combate às alterações climáticas”, afirma Lorena Lopes, engenheira de Meio Ambiente da companhia.
Sobre o Programa Brasileiro GHG Protocol
O PBGHG, criado em 2008 e realizado pelo Centro de Estudos em Sustentabilidade da Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGVces), é responsável pela adaptação do método GHG Protocol ao contexto brasileiro e pelo desenvolvimento de ferramentas de cálculo para estimativas de emissões de gases do efeito estufa corporativas. Seu principal objetivo é estimular a cultura corporativa de inventário de emissões de gases de efeito estufa (GEE) no Brasil, proporcionando aos participantes acesso a instrumentos e padrões de qualidade internacional para contabilização das emissões e publicação dos inventários no Registro Público de Emissões. O PBGHG também atua na capacitação de organizações-membro para elaboração de inventários organizacionais de GEE, oferecendo treinamentos sobre o método do GHG Protocol.
O Programa surgiu graças a uma parceria entre o Centro de Estudos em Sustentabilidade da Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGVces) e do o World Resources Institute (WRI), com o Ministério do Meio Ambiente, o Conselho Empresarial Brasileiro para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável (CEBDS) e o World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBSCD). No seu início, o programa contou, ainda, com o envolvimento de 27 empresas fundadoras, pioneiras na utilização do modelo nacional de cálculo das emissões. No último Registro Público de Emissões, 577 empresas contribuíram com a iniciativa.
